5 great answers to your biggest doggy questions

Do dogs wag their tails because they're happy?

If the tail is wagging loosely from side to side it means the dog is feeling relaxed and content. More rigorous wagging means the dog is saying hello to a friend and is feeling happy and excited.

Is my dog left pawed?

Dogs are just like humans in this regard. They will usually have a dominant paw that they prefer to use for scratching at the door or pulling toys towards them. Watch your dog for long enough and you'll identify the dominant paw.

How good is a dog's sense of smell?

Dogs can smell between 10,000 and 100,000 times better than a human can. The part of the brain dedicated to smell is 40 times larger than in humans, and they also have 300 million smell receptors, where we humans have just six million.

Why is my dog's nose always wet?

There are a couple of theories on why noses are wet in dogs. One is that dogs lick their noses throughout the day to make them wet. The other is that the moisture helps them to keep cool, since dogs can't sweat to lose heat the way humans do.

Why do dogs walk in a circle before lying down?

They get this behaviour from their wild ancestors. The circle movement helps to make a clearing in the grass for them to lie in, and it also scares off any bugs or snakes. Dogs love sleeping in circular shaped beds that mirror the shape of their bodies. That’s why Pupnaps is one of the best doggy beds out there…
